The Knight and the Dragon

Begin Lesson 15 on page 103 by following The Assignment steps on the bottom of that page.  Write a Rough Draft of the first 2 paragraphs.  Make sure to notice the structural and style elements found in the Checklists on pages 105 (Level B) and 106 (Level A) before you begin writing.

The step by step process for creating a quality story is listed on page 97: please use these instructions to learn how the curriculum is guiding the writing process.  The students should be learning the process as well as the elements to include in writing.

The pictures and the given title provide parameters for the story, although the student is free to change the title's wording.

Mini Research Paper Final Drafts

Your Final Drafts are due on Tuesday with the appropriate level Checklist attached, please.  The elements should be marked and abbreviated in the margin of the paper.  Remember to attach the Bibliography page, having been written according to the model entries found in the textbook.

Practice, Rough Draft Work, Bibliography, and Planning

Do Practice Exercises on Page 90 of the textbook.

Complete your Bibliography page that will accompany the Final Draft of the Knights mini research paper.  The guide for this is on page 89, and the sources from the book were completed in class.

Read Page 93.  Then, look at the box on the bottom of Page 88 and begin thinking and planning for the research report that will be the next project.  Choose at least two sources for your topic and bring them to class on Friday.

The students who received back their Knights Rough Draft need to mark the elements and notate them in the margin of the paper using the Rough Draft Checklists on page 75, 78, 80, and 86.  The three students whose copies I still possess do not have this to do because they already did so: Jacob, Allie, and Elijah.

Level A students should remember that they are not required to do Introductory or Conclusion Paragraphs, but merely Introductory and Conclusion Sentences.  Neither do Level A students have to find additional information for the three topics from outside sources.

Correction to Last Assignment

The second set of 5 sentences following the SRN Grammar Rule 2a on page 60 are sentences following that rule, not the same pattern of sentences using the #2 Sentence Opener.

Prepositional Openers

Read and be able to recognize prepositions from page 6 of the SRN.  Read page 87 in the text, and then write 5 random sentences using a #2 Sentence Opener for practice.

Read and study Grammar Rule 2a on page 60 of the SRN.  Write 5 sentences using the #2 Sentence Opener with 5 different prepositions.

Write quality sentences for these practice exercises and be prepared to share some in class on Tuesday.

Those who have not completed the Rough Draft of the Mini Research Paper should have that for me on Tuesday.  Please note that Level A students are not required to write Introductory or Conclusion PARAGRAPHS, but they instead should have Introductory and Conclusion SENTENCES.

The text adequately details what is expected for both the process and the requirements of the project, but please do contact me if you need clarification.
