Mini Research Paper Rough Draft

All students should, by Friday, complete the whole body of the mini research paper as a Rough Draft.  Each part of the body of the paper should be created from the fused outlines that have already been completed from pages 75, 78, and 80.

Please note that the page 80 fused outline could not have yet been completed IF the student did not research Topic C from another source outside of the textbook.  Therefore, they should do this FIRST if it has not been done.

Level A students should note the instructions for Topic B in the text: this lightens the load for you.

Finally, the last part of the Rough Draft should be the writing of an Introductory Paragraph and a Concluding Paragraph as explained in Lesson 12 of the text.  Refer to this teaching if more review is needed.  Use page 85 to help you write these additional paragraphs.  Also, use the Rough Checklists on page 86 to ensure these paragraphs contain the needed elements.

Use the process: the writing should flow freely from the outlines already completed, and the information has been reviewed repeatedly, making it very familiar, so enjoy the journey of writing.

No additional vocabulary will be pursued at this point; we may pick that up on Friday as the writing should occupy your attention this week.

Those Vikings!

Polish your Vikings papers!  For those of you who received an "Incomplete" on you Final Draft, then you obviously have to re-write the Final Draft and have it critiqued and graded first, so you will not be able to do the Polished Copy yet.

I look forward to seeing this work when we reconvene on Tuesday, November 29th!

Mini Research Paper Progress

By Friday, everyone should have handed into me the Rough Draft for Topic A of the mini research paper on Knights.

The new assignment is to proceed through the same process for topic B and for level B students, topic C also (pages 77-80), completing all the OUTLINING.  I did not want anyone to proceed with those rough draft paragraphs for topics B and C until I have returned the rough drafts of the first paragraph - giving you an extra critique opportunity without grading.

Study all your vocabulary.  Level B students should use a thesaurus to find an additional 3 synonyms for the vocabulary words.  Write them on the backs of the cards and study.

Polished Hastings, Vocab., & Outlines

Polish your Final Drafts of The Battle of Hastings paper, be careful to make needed changes based on your teacher critique and Final Draft Checklist.

Cut out and study the vocabulary cards for Lesson 11.  Level B students should look up additional synonyms to write on the back of the cards.

Complete the OUTLINES on pages 74 and 75.  Level B students should find a 3rd source for their first topic about which they are writing on these pages.  Level A students are not required to have a 3rd source.

Finalizing and Polishing

Using the Final Checklists (Level A, page 61 and Level B, page 62), create your Final Draft of your Vikings paper.  Remember the critiquing and discussion from class as you turn your Rough Draft into the Final Draft.

Take your Final Drafts of your Charlemagne paper and make it wonderful using the written critiques and checklist page to create your Polished Copy!

The Vikings!

Level B - Write the 3rd paragraph from the outline you created on page 60.  This is only the Rough Draft, so use the Rough Draft Checklist on the bottom of page 60.  Also, be sure that your first two paragraphs contain the needed elements according to their Rough Draft checklists on pages 57 and 59.

Level A - Use the Rough Draft checklists on pages 57 and 59 to comb through your Rough Drafts of paragraphs A and B, being sure you have those elements.  You may make changes as you see ways to improve what you have already written, but this paper is still in the Rough Draft phase of writing.

Thank you for your patience as you wait for me to catch up on all the technical grading of papers, calculating averages, and creating report cards.  I did have technical difficulties this week that delayed my progress in this subject.  Have a wonderful weekend!

Battle of Hastings Final Draft

I.
   A)  Students (parents this is a great place to lend your aid!) should read back through their paragraph, notating on their Rough Draft where changes for improvement could be made.  (It is often after letting a written work rest that we have new eyes to see how it can be further improved.  Class time was spent today modeling how to put ideas together to write good sentences in logical order from the key word outlines.)

   B) Then, write the Final Draft, using the Final Checklist, page 67, as a guide.

   C) Attach a copy of page 67 to the copy of the Final Draft upon completion to turn in this Friday.

II.  Study all vocabulary words through Lesson 9.  Level B students are required to also know the similar words, and that is optional for Level A students.  We will have a vocabulary quiz in class on Friday that will in the same format as the prior quiz.

III. Lastly, Level B students should locate a source for a third topic about the Vikings.  They should pick a topic about which they wish to write for the third paragraph on the Vikings, page 60.  They should then proceed to write their OUTLINE for this paragraph, using the same procedure which they followed in the book for the first two paragraphs.
